Mama's Comedy Show has been Making Audiences laugh since 200

Collage of live comedy performances with an audience at Mama's Comedy Show.

Orlando's BEST comedy show!!

About Mama’s Comedy Show

Our Story: Making Orlando Laugh Since 2009

Mama’s Comedy Show was only supposed to last four weeks.

In 2009, Orlando had plenty of entertainment, but we felt like something was missing: a place where adults could get together, forget about the outside world for a while, and laugh at completely uncensored comedy.

So a group of Orlando improvisers, actors and comedians decided to create one.

We were given an empty theater inside the famous Sleuths Mystery Dinner Theatre on International Drive and a four-week trial run. Most of our original performers came from the world of interactive murder mystery theater, with backgrounds that also included sketch comedy, improv and ComedySportz-style performance.

All four weeks sold out.

Instead of saying goodbye after our fourth show, we were asked to stay.

Seventeen years later, we're still laughing.

Why Is It Called “Mama’s”?

From the beginning, Mama’s Comedy Show was built around one simple idea:

For a couple of hours, everybody in the room is family.

That's why we call our audience members our “cousins.”

Whatever happened at work that week, whatever is happening in the world, whatever frustrations were waiting outside the theater—you could leave them at the door, walk into Mama's living room and laugh with a room full of people who might have been strangers when the night started.

Over the years, we've discovered something pretty wonderful:

The family part doesn't always end when the show does.

People come back. They bring friends. Friends bring more friends. Audience members become regulars, regulars become cousins, and some of those cousins have been part of the Mama's family for years.

Comedy Where the Audience Is Always in the Safe Seat

Mama's has been interactive from the very beginning.

But there's an important difference between being part of the fun and being the target of the joke.

At Mama's, we're never interested in embarrassing someone who bought a ticket. Nobody has to spend the evening worrying that a comedian is going to single them out or make them the punchline.

The cast will absolutely make fun of each other—lovingly. That's what family does.

Our cousins are in the safe seat.

Audience suggestions inspire scenes, games, conversations and sometimes completely unexpected detours. A scene might stop because the performers themselves can't stop laughing. Someone's suggestion might remind a cast member of a ridiculous true story. That story might send the entire show somewhere none of us expected.

That's Mama's.

You're not just watching performers occasionally ask the audience for suggestions. It feels more like spending the night hanging out with your funniest friends.

Except these friends have microphones.

From Four Weeks to Thousands of Shows

Mama's was founded by Cousin Todd, an Orlando performer and playwright who loved comedy and making things up on the spot.

The original idea was to bring together performers from a sketch comedy troupe he was part of. Instead, the family quickly grew to include other Orlando improvisers who wanted to be part of something different.

Over the next 17 years, Mama's performed thousands of shows for Orlando locals, tourists, resort guests, private groups and audiences throughout Central Florida.

Along the way, Mama's received numerous Tripadvisor Certificates of Excellence and thousands of five-star reviews from guests around the world.

At one point, Mama's climbed so high in Tripadvisor's Orlando attraction rankings that our little comedy show was rated above both Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando.

Then, shortly after passing Disney, we mysteriously found ourselves moved into a different category.

We're sure that was a complete coincidence.

Probably.

Then Mama Had Kids

For years, Mama's was unapologetically an adults-only comedy show.

Then we wondered whether the thing that made Mama's special could work for families, too.

We approached an Orlando-area resort near Walt Disney World with the idea of creating a completely family-friendly version of the Mama's experience. They took a chance on us.

About six months later, the resort's general manager admitted something: she hadn't expected the show to work.

But families loved it.

The resort received overwhelmingly positive comments and reviews from guests, and what began as another experiment turned into another invitation to stay.

Mama's Comedy Show: Family Style was born.

Today, Mama's performers entertain both adults and families through our public shows, Orlando-area resort entertainment, private events, interactive murder mysteries and special performances throughout Central Florida.

Comedy That Does Some Good

We've also been fortunate enough to use Mama's for more than laughs.

Over the years, we've performed benefit shows supporting different causes, including raising money for children's theater and even helping a homeless dog get the medical care it needed.

They're very different causes.

Mama has a big family.

Orlando Voted for Mama

In 2026, something happened that meant an enormous amount to us.

Readers of Orlando Weekly voted Mama's Comedy Show Best Recurring Comedy Night in the annual Best of Orlando awards.

After 17 years of performing in Orlando, being recognized by the people in our own community was incredibly special.

The cast has changed and grown during those years. Two members of the original Mama's cast are still performing with us today, and many of our regular performers have now been part of the family for more than a decade.

New cousins continue to join us.

But the reason we do the show hasn't really changed at all.

Seventeen Years Later…

Cousin Todd still performs regularly with Mama's.

And he still laughs.

A lot.

“I love Mama's. When I leave town for work, I miss it. It's always been about bringing people together to laugh. It's my personal therapy. I laugh so much during the shows—and I'm in the cast. I genuinely feel like being surrounded by all that laughter has added years to my life. Good years.”

Maybe that's ultimately the best explanation of Mama's Comedy Show.

For a little while, you get to forget about everything else.

You sit down with a bunch of cousins you haven't met yet.

And we laugh together.

Welcome to the family.
